1. Scope of this policy

1.1 What this site is

ABOUT SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM is a reading site with no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comment system, no search box and no working contact form. Section 2 lists what this means in practice.

1.2 Accuracy of this policy

This policy describes the site as it is actually built and behaves on 13 September 2026, not features that may be added later. Section 7 covers what would change first if that happens.

2. What is not collected

2.1 No reader records

• No user accounts, logins or reader profiles exist.
• No newsletter, contact form or comment system collects your details.
• No personal information is sold, rented or shared with data brokers.

2.2 No advertising

No advertising network, tag manager, heat-mapping tool, CAPTCHA or social tracking pixel is installed on these pages. Nothing here is used for advertising, remarketing, personalisation or profiling, and the Google advertising consent settings stay switched off even when you accept analytics.

3. Analytics and your choice

3.1 What is used

This publication uses two measurement tools, each for the same narrow purpose: aggregate measurement of how the publication is read, so the site can be improved. Neither is used for advertising, profiling or personalised content.

• Ahrefs Web Analytics — a cookieless measurement script from Ahrefs that records aggregate traffic without setting cookies or storing an identifier on your device. It runs on every visit and is not affected by the analytics choice below, precisely because it stores nothing on your device.
• Google Analytics 4, provided by Google — an optional analytics tool that stays off until you choose, as described in the rest of this section.

3.2 Google Analytics is off until you choose

On a first visit, Google's consent settings are set to denied before the Google tag runs: analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation are all denied. A banner then lets you Accept, Reject or open Preferences. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the whole publication is readable either way. This choice applies to Google Analytics only; the cookieless Ahrefs measurement described above does not depend on it.

3.3 If you reject analytics

No Google Analytics cookies or analytics storage are used. Google's tag does still load and, in this denied state, sends limited cookieless measurement requests to Google that contain no identifier stored on your device — this was checked in the browser rather than assumed. It is not accurate to say that nothing at all reaches Google; it is accurate to say that no analytics identifier is stored on or read from your device.

3.4 If you accept analytics

Analytics storage is granted, and Google Analytics then sets its own first-party cookies in your browser — observed as _ga and a cookie named after the measurement identifier (_ga_…) — which distinguish visits and sessions. Advertising consent remains denied.

3.5 Changing or withdrawing your choice

Privacy choices in the footer reopens the same panel from any page, so you can switch analytics on or off later. Switching it off updates Google's consent setting to denied and, as verified in the browser, removes the Google Analytics cookies described above.

4. Cookies and browser storage

4.1 Remembering your choice

Your privacy choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage under the key asc-consent-v1. It holds only whether analytics is on or off and the date of the choice. No cookie, identifier or personal detail is stored for this purpose, and the value never leaves your browser.

4.2 Everything else

Apart from that record and the Google Analytics cookies that appear only after you accept, this site sets no cookies of its own. There is no advertising, profiling or personalisation storage. Any future technology of that kind would be described here, and where consent is legally required it would be requested before that technology runs — not afterwards.

5. What is unavoidably processed

5.1 Hosting and delivery

Like any website, this one is delivered by a hosting and content-delivery provider, which processes ordinary technical request information — such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested — in order to serve the page and protect it from abuse. Those server-side logs are held by the provider under its own retention practices, and this publication does not build reader profiles from them.

5.2 Third parties your browser contacts

These third parties receive a request from your browser when a page loads, which means they can see your IP address and browser information:

• Google (googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com) — supplies and receives the analytics measurement described in section 3. Google's own privacy information is published at policies.google.com/privacy.
• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) — supplies the typefaces used across the site.
• Ahrefs (analytics.ahrefs.com) — supplies and receives the cookieless aggregate measurement described in section 3. Ahrefs' own privacy information is published at ahrefs.com/privacy.
• Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.org and upload.wikimedia.org) — serves the licensed photographs directly from their source, so that each image stays tied to its licence.

Fonts and photographs are not used for advertising or measurement, and each provider handles that request under its own privacy terms.

6. External links, children and your rights

6.1 External links

Source links point to third-party sites such as news outlets, league and university pages and Wikimedia Commons. Once you follow one, that site's own privacy practices apply. Outbound source and licence links carry nofollow and noopener.

6.2 Children

This is a general-audience editorial site and is not directed at children under 13. No information is knowingly collected from them.

6.3 Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information held about you. Because this site holds no reader records beyond the hosting provider's technical logs and the aggregate analytics described above, such requests will usually be answered by explaining that there is nothing on file. The contact page explains how a request or concern can be raised.

7. Changes to this policy

7.1 New features

If the site ever adds something that collects information — a contact form, for example — this page will be updated before that feature goes live, not after.

7.2 Review date

The date shown below is the date this policy was last checked against the actual code and runtime behaviour of the site, not merely the date it was edited.
