Rock Bridge, then Mizzou

At Rock Bridge High School in Columbia she won four consecutive state championships and was named a McDonald's All-American in 2015. The university she signed with was the one her parents had both competed for and the one her older sister Lindsey was already playing basketball for.

Lindsey's and Sophie's college careers overlapped for two seasons as team-mates. The rest of that story sits on the family page.

A starter from the first game

In her fourth college game, against Wake Forest on 22 November 2015, she scored a school-record 42 points. She was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2015—16. Missouri lists her as a three-time All-SEC First Team selection; Sports Reference counts four All-SEC honours without saying which teams. In 2019 she was named AP and USBWA Third-Team All-America, a first for Missouri.

Her scoring rose from 14.0 points as a freshman to a peak of 18.5 in 2017—18. That was also the season she shot .542 from the field and .457 from three, the most efficient year of the four. Missouri reached the NCAA Tournament in all four.

Free-throw shooting is the skill that travelled: .839 across four college seasons, and above 86% across her professional career so far. She left as Missouri's all-time leader in free throws made, with 537, and second in career three-pointers made, with 238.

Hall of Fame, six years later

On 21 April 2025, in her first year of eligibility, she was announced for the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2025. She was inducted at a public ceremony at Mizzou Arena on 12 September 2025, one of six inductees. It came four weeks after the knee injury that ended her 2025 season in Indiana.

The four seasons remain the largest single body of work in her career: 129 games, all of them starts, and a scoring total no Missouri player had reached before her. Her professional career began from a much smaller role.
